This year I'm working to get our school certified in Digital Citizenship through Common Sense Media. If you haven't checked out Common Sense, it's a great resource for students, parents, and teachers. Common Sense is a nonprofit organization that dedicates itself to empowering kids in our digital society. www.commonsensemedia.org
I'm currently working closely with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade through Digital Passport. We talk about different topics students are faced with today in our high-tech society. Some examples include cyberbullying, privacy online, searching, and much more. If your student comes home talking about it, you can check out the resources together at digitalpassport.org. Their username is their Student ID, and their password is their birthday in MMDDYYYY format.
In October, I will begin classes with our lower grades about Digital Citizenship!
Don't forget on Sept. 24th, I will present at our parent workshop if you would like to learn more about this topic.
