Congratulations to Yusef, Zaniyah, Rishi, Kaliyah, and Bryan for earning their AR poster this week!
This week with kindergarten, first, and second grade, we learned about digital citizenship. The internet is a great resource for students, however, it's my goal for students to use this resource responsibly. This week we started with online communities and internet safety.
To learn more, www.commonsensemedia.org and www.netsmartz.org are both great resources! Even though we had a short week, we packed in a lot. Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking a group of students to meet one of our favorite authors, Rachel Renee Russell. We learned that it is a family affair for the Dork Diaries to be made. Rachel's daughter Erin helps write the stories, while her other daughter Nikki illustrates the stories. Rachel uses her daughters for inspiration as well; most of her ideas come from what happened to both Erin and Nikki in real life.
We truly enjoyed meeting her. A special thanks to the Atlanta Fulton County Public Library for hosting this year's Milner Award! Kindergarten is beginning to examine their holiday unit, and we started with Columbus Day in the media center. We first learned about Christopher Columbus, and then we read the book The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. The main character Peter explores his neighborhood after a big snowstorm. We compared the two different type of explorers using Educreations on our iPads. Check out some of the work from Ms. Tripp's Kindergarten Class!
Congratulations to Ruchira and Mia in Mrs. Park's 4th grade class for being the first 2 students to achieve their AR goals! They will be invited to our party in December and have their READ posters made!
Keep up the great reading! |
